South Delhi Polytechnic for Women had a Book Release by Mr.Rod Pryde-Culture Minister(South Asian Affairs(U.K.) and Director –British Council. The interesting ceremony took place in the Hall of Books, the Campus Library. The author of the book Harpreet Arora, is Head of Department of Jewellery Design. It is a book on the art of  painting flowers with water colours.
It commenced with a song by Tagore on Flowers, appropriately sung by Students of EVENT MANAGEMENT & PERFORMNG ART. The author of the book Harpreet Arora, is head of Department of Jewellery Design said,” The book is  not only aimed at students but anyone who wants to capture the beautiful specimens of Nature and bring lasting beauty into their lives, in a wonderful way..
Mr.Pryde also shared a few thoughts with the students. He said the enthusiasm, discipline and spirit of the college was very evident by the affectionate gathering …especially, the ones standing on the staircase and the upper cloister, in their eagerness to get a good view of the ceremony. He said, occasions like these go a long way in inspiring students, to be creative.
The Event Co.ordinator -Dr.R. Chaudhuri happily mentioned , “This was the fifth Book Release of a faculty Member. It was also very symbolic that Mr. Pryde had released the book. Not only because his country England has a great tradition of painting flowers with watercolours or that Valentine day is round the corner(!)But, as the College has had a very fruitful exchange  link-up with Blackburn College, under the prestigious UKEIRI Project that had signatory  endorsements by the Prime Minsters  of the two countries.”
Mr.Rod Pryde had prior to the book release, also inaugurated an exhibition on flowers-lovingly created by students . All the 11 Departments (out of 21 departments in the college) have used mediums in relevance to their field. Therefore, while Jewellery Design students carved floral motifs on jewels. The Fashion Design Students worked on silhouettes and Textile design Students on Fabrics. The Early Childhood education students worked with unusual materials like pencil shavings but again, in a very professional and creative manner.
The exhibition will be on till the end of February, 2009 at the Campus Gallery 2000.The book is priced at Rs.250/- and is replete with a surfeit of colour pictures.
